How big is the bootjack?
Each boot jack is 14" long, and the interior of the 'U" is approximately 2
1/2" starting at the bottom of the 'U' and exterior approx 4 1/2

How much does it weigh?
The bootjack itself weighs less than a pound and approx. 1 lb and 2 oz when
packaged for shipping. With it's light weight, yet sturdy construction, it is
perfect for shipping, or traveling.

Can this be used by a heavy person?
Because of the nature of how a boot jack is used, it can be used by lighter
weight people as well as heavy people. You can see by our photo, that boots are
actually 'toed' off after slipping the heel of the boot into the U part of the
boot jack or boot pull.

Can this item be personalized?
Some of these bootjacks can be personalized, too, but we can do so only on the
lighter woods. We use western style letters for the bootjack and burn them in
as if to 'brand' the wood. These letters do not show up well on darker woods.
Nor do we personalize on aromatic red cedar hardwood. We do charge a small fee
for personalization.

What is it made of?
All of our bootjacks are constructed of sturdy pine wood, aromatic red cedar,
or standard red cedar with the silhouette overlay emblems made of oak veneer on
lighter woods on selected bootjacks.

Will it scuff my boots?
Over the years of making these bootjacks, we've refined the process and have
opted for a less decorative outer edge and going for the round over. This
resulted in a nice inner curve of the 'U' where the boot heel rests and leaves
no scarring on your boots. But if desired, a small piece of denim or leather
may be applied to the interior 'U".

How sturdy is it?
Don't be deceived by the wood or style of the jack. These bootjacks are
incredibly sturdy. Again, no one needs to put their full entire weight on any
bootjack to get their boots off. Originally, bootjacks were even made by
getting a wider U shaped branch to pull off boots. Imagine that scarring your
boots!

How did you come by this design?
My dad, a German woodworker who emigrated to the states and bringing his
quality craft with him, originally started making them when a friend showed him
the design. He took a standard outline and decided to add the silhouettes to
them and later we added the branding. He had over 65 years of experience in
wookworking and he was one of the most creative and artistic men I've ever
known!! He taught us the skill to make these and we've carried on ever since he
passed away. We've been doing these bootjacks for 15 years. They take, from
beginning to end, (cutting the outline and legs, cutting the silhouette,
gluing, sanding and polyurethaning) approximately two plus hours to do each one.
